Christopher Payne has acted as agent for many types of sale negotiated privately between  auction houses as well as dealers and from private collector to private collector. Having been a director and auctioneer at Sotheby’s in London, he is well-placed to advise on selling an item with a suitable auction house, negotiating terms and conditions taking a lot of the administration away from busy clients.

A notable recent private sale was the desk, bookcase and armchair used by Linke at his Paris apartment on the Quai Henri IV, illustrated on the back cover of “Linke” and shown below.

There are several items of furniture on the market available through private negotiation at the present time, including two of the most important pieces of furniture ever made by François Linke, items which contributed to Linke winning the Gold Medal at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition.
